Play Report: Forbidden Lands Session 1

Session 1

The party, composed of Solveig the Aslene Rider and Elzin the Halfling Peddler, made their way across the Margelda Plains and the gunslinger followed

Fallwane 1

On the 1st day of Fallwane, the party headed east, towards the nearest village in order to embark on their moneymaking scheme. You see, Elzin wished to become rich, outrageously so, but had made some bad deals that resulted in a large debt that left him with naught but 6 silver to his name. To remedy this measly sum jingling disparagingly in his pockets, he made an ally of an aloof man with a horse, for some reason. As they headed east towards the allure of poor village folk that could be scammed, they found a broken bridge spanning a large chasm interrupting their travels. The chasm teemed with trees and flowers, and the low buzz of the bees making honey could be heard from the top of the cliff face. With the bridge out, and not willing to brave the bees, they headed around the chasm, eating up most of the morning.

That afternoon while riding through the tall grasses of the plains, they heard crying and weeping and gnashing of teeth, and upon investigation discovered a group of Ailanders, from the village they sought, who's friend had been killed viciously. Elzin offered up Solveig's horse to take the body back to town for a proper funeral, at much protest from Solveig. The Ailanders, led by a man named Sebastian, agreed to lead the party back to town in exchange. A tense alliance was thus formed, and promptly broken. When the group spotted a ruined keep in the distance, surrounded by broken gravestones, the party saw opportunity. They asked Sebastian if he and his friends would be willing to venture into the keep and scavenge for anything with which to pay the benevolent adventurers who carried the body of their friend. After some quiet conversation, the Ailanders suddenly attacked Elzin and Solveig, and lost track of the party as they fled on horseback. The not-so-benevolent party rode south to the river to make camp for the night, and hide out in case anyone came after them.

Fallwane 2

This day was spent largely faffing about. The weather had turned, and the rain made the river rise to the point it would be dangerous to cross, and Solveig was unwillingly to risk his steed making the crossing. He and his small companion spent the day hunting, successfully killing a rabbit, before the rain finally abated and the river could be crossed. Most of the day was gone by this point, so they made camp again and rested peacefully.

Fallwane 3

Our rain-sodden heroes swindlers awoke to clear skies and the sound of a massive gong or bell being rung. They followed the noise to the northwest, and found a belltower with a massive bronze bell. They cautiously approached, as they could see people at the tower and were wary due to their recent run-in. The caution was unwarranted though, and Solveig and Elzin were greeted by one of the men at the base of the tower, another Aslene who's name was Florin. Florin explained that the tower was used for a religious ritual to their god Horn, the great flaming steed birthed from a volcano that brought fire and horses to the ancient ancestors of the Aslenes. They rang the bell every sunrise and sunset as a form of worship to their fiery god. Florin implored the party for help, as just after ringing the bell this morning, the mechanism got stuck. The Aslenes had begun to mildly panic, as their efforts to unstick the bell had not yet been fruitful, and they needed to fix it before their sunset duty. The session ended with Florin imploring Solveig and Elzin to find some way to fix the bell before sunset.
